Transforming Emotional Habits: A Mindfulness Based Approach

I have been facilitating change within families for nearly two decades. Parents can feel frustrated and overwhelmed in dealing with the tumultuous time of a son’s or daughter's adolescence. Despite attempts to improve the situation, parents often feel powerless as youth continue to "up the ante" with ever more concerning behaviors such as verbal abuse, defiance, substance abuse, or failing grades. Profound transitions in the form of parents’ separation or divorce and illness or death can be painful and difficult, and create overwhelming or destabilizing stress.

My approach to working with such situations is to involve the entire family to find the leverage for change and where balance can be found.  This is a strategic-systemic process utilizing mindfulness and respect, which results in:

  1. •Open and effective communication

  2. •Strong yet appropriately flexible boundaries

  3. •Meaningful and safe differentiation for youth

  4. •Establishing legitimate parental hierarchy

  5. •Rediscovering fun

  6. •Remembering love in the face of conflict

I have facilitated well over 1,000 family sessions with a range of issues.  If you have additional questions or concerns about your family or my services please feel free to call or e-mail me directly.
